Simply land the MSL rover on Mars as planned in 2012 and explore for a few years, gathering samples of most interest. The rover will have plenty of time to explore and find the most interesting samples. Then around 2014 or so, land the Mars Sample Return lander near the MSL rover location to receive the samples from MSL rover.
